General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and is designed to match privacy laws across Europe. It has redesigned the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. It applies to “Data Controllers” and “Data Processors” and similar to the DPA the controller says how and why data is processed. It also applies to organisations outside the EU that offer goods or services within the EU.
